About the event

The University is introducing a refreshed approach to student feedback through the Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET) and Teacher Check-In (TCI) initiatives.

Join the SET Town Hall webinar, hosted by Professor Adam Bridgeman, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Teaching and Learning), and Professor Doune Macdonald, Academic Lead (SET project), to learn what this means for teaching teams as the initiatives move into expanded pilots in Semester 1, 2026.

The session will share progress since 2024, including pilot findings, refinements to survey scope and reporting, the inclusion of casual teaching staff, and preparations for Stage 1 implementation in Semester 2, 2026.

We will also outline key timings, reporting processes, data governance, and the support available for Unit Coordinators and teaching teams.

Staff can pre-submit Slido questions here - closes 8 April

About SET and TCI

As part of the University’s Collective Excellence 2026–2028 (CE28) priorities, the University is strengthening how it captures and responds to student feedback to enhance teaching quality and the student experience.

Working with students and staff, the Student Evaluation of Teaching (SET) survey has been developed as a refreshed institutional tool to gather student feedback on the quality of learning and teaching experiences at Sydney. The survey focuses on both the unit and the teaching within it and is intended to replace the Unit of Study Survey (USS) following piloting and evaluation.

Together with Teacher Check-In (TCI), the new framework provides a consistent, evidence-based approach to capturing feedback to support continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
